Śloka 2

Verseश्लोकः
Commentaryव्याख्या
The bhāṣya of Śrī Candraśekhara Bhāratī Svāmī treats ślokas 1 and 2 together as a single doctrinal unit. In the commentary (translated in `sloka_001_translation.md`), the key points covered with reference to this verse are: - The ascending hierarchy of rare attainments: human birth → manhood → brāhmaṇahood → Vedic dharma → vidvatva → ātma-anātma-vivecana → svanubhava → abidance as brahman. - The relationship between pravṛtti-dharma (engaged action) and nivṛtti-dharma (renunciation) as complementary means — the former purifying the mind, the latter enabling Vedāntic inquiry through sannyāsa and śravaṇa. - The four stages of knowledge (jñānabhūmikā): aspiration, inquiry, subtlety of mind, attainment of purity; and the state beyond the fourth (turyātīta) corresponding to brahman-ātmanā sansthiti. - The refutation of the Karma-Mīmāṃsaka view that dharma alone, without knowledge, suffices for liberation. - The distinction between secondary liberations (sālokya, sāmīpya, sārūpya, sāyujya) and kaivalya, the highest liberation.
